Viking called “Explorer staff”
Cabin: Shared with 1 Explorer staff or Hotel admin.
Amenities: Staff/Officer mess which is almost the same as crew mess but just a bit more pretty. Free internet but really slow and not expect it to be fast enough to do much.
Food: Better than NCL and RCCL ( I was there, TBH,Viking is the best but doesn't mean it will make you enjoy much) Sunday egg benedicts is a pluse for staff/officer mess.
Duties: You have to work as Guest service merged with shore excursion staff.
Guest service: You need to take care of your cash float, break the big bills for the guest or even exchange currency. Book the tours for the guests and you must have knowledge about the port (Don’t worry, at my time, we done a small presentation for you. So, just read it) Take some complains regarding all issues and transfer to the key person.
You need to do a night shift which will give you a to do list. It is calm and peaceful BUT manage it wisely. You might face with amenities card printer kaput and or late print receipts for all guests.
Shore excursion: Prepare at least 20 plus bags for tour guide, QV systems and make sure it work properly. In this role, you might need to wake up early to set the tour bus and leave as the last person to make sure all guests are onboard then you report to the bridge “ShoreX to bridge,All tours are back,All tour are back,Over!” Then you pack stuff and return to the ship.
Then you go change, come back in a suit jacket then prepare bags for tour guide, daily report and short meeting with shore excursion manager team.
Personally,I would love to return to Viking but sadly, HR from shore side just declined me since they know I had medical disembark from another company so they throw a big NO to my face and now I know that my ship life has been concluded.
