Ships: Royal Caribbean
Salary: base $500 plus comission
The best salary I had in 3 contracts was maybe $1200 & the lowest comission I had, working on one of the largest ships a lot because itinerary was not appealing, a lot of sea days and working during ports was normal I remember getting $30 dollars for that cruise
My first contract was really good, not in terms of money but ship life, I had a good team, nice itinerary, I did enjoy a lot even tho not making much money, but for a first contract was great. A lot of free time, easy to make targets, I was even working on my free time because I wanted to refill my shop that was always really busy (the perfectionist in me) but no complains.
The second contract was opening the ship, it was a lot of hard work, who did it knows what I’m talking about and then all eyes are on the new ship a lot of pressure, but I had an amazing management team, we were barely making any target, med season so always tax, no money at all, but the good thing I was going on excursions every day as a tour escourt, that made my contract I visit so many places for free
Then I went to hell on my last contract, was simply the worst itinerary, managers like snakes I don’t know how they got that position, because no skills in leadership, only in putting all team down, I felt so bad for the new hires because they thought that was the normal, I saw always people crying everyday, then always stupid rules to force sales, with policies that came across forced and disingenuous. They also applied unnecessary pressure on us, but as it is a company policy it’s information I won’t get into detail about specifically.
“Then going work in the little free time we had to clean the shops when we did clean the night before, always closing around 1am I eventually I resigned even (3 people resigned before me) I don’t like to give up but that was too much for little money. To sacrifice my mental health.
So nowadays I know they are paying around 900 base. But for comission not great.
