A group of passengers aboard a cruise ship have started a hunger strike after their trip to Antarctica was disrupted by an engine failure. The ship SH Diana carrying around 170 passengers, left Cape Town on November 13 for a 21-day voyage to South America but can no longer reach key destinations in Antarctica.
Passengers, who paid between £7,000 and £10,000 for the cruise, are frustrated that the company, Swan Hellenic, has not offered full refunds. Some passengers, particularly from Russia and China, began the hunger strike to demand compensation.
People were especially upset when the company refused to reimburse them for the full cost of the holiday. In protest, tourists from Russia and China went on a hunger strike to get their money back.
