I am concerned about how Royal Caribbean cruise ship HR managers are dealing with shipboard couples registration, they only concerned with there own procedures it’s one company but different styles of management, me and my wife got married traditionally and on legal grounds which helps us to get an authentic marriage certificate but we both never visit each other’s country simply because our contracts are not aligned, so to make it align we need to register as couples so that we can go home together and have the time to visit each other’s countries but, when we approach any ships HR they said they can’t approve it if we don’t visit each other’s country, our we marrying our countries or the two of us are married, I just don’t understand and how can we visit each other if they don’t want to approve our marriage certificate so that we can go on vacation at the same time, it’s so frustrating.

Hi Jalgas, I am a HRM on RCCL and I have a question for you: you mentioned you and your wife have a marriage certificate. This document alone meets one of the requirements to be linked in the system. Are you both linked already? About being from different countries, if you have a legal document, this is not a problem.
Now to be aligned is a different situation. Not sure if you both are within the same department with the same contract length. This can make things a little bit difficult but never impossible. The scheduling team in Manila are handling contracts and sign on/off dates. It is not a prerogative of the HRM onboard to ensure your contracts are aligned. However for sure he/she can send a couple of messages to the schedulers asking them to work on that. Another thing I noticed in your comments is that you are not going to each other countries. How is the situation with your gateways?? There is a couple of peculiar things in your situation but for sure a fee chats can help clarify everything.
Good luck!!!

Can you not get married in one of the ports of call? There must be placed that are ordained to do weddings outside of your country. My husband was Jamaican and I am Canadian and we got married in the USA and it was recognized. You can even work with the Event Coordinator onboard to find people that are ordained as he / she arranges port weddings as part of their job.
