The crew community calls on the cruise lines and seafarers unions to implement a policy granting all crew members one full day off per month, the initiative started by Buhay Sa Cruise Ship. This change is a necessary step toward improving the well-being, productivity, and morale of the hardworking crew who keep the ships running and deliver exceptional guest experiences.

Why This Matters:
Cruise ship crew members dedicate their lives to providing world-class service, often working long hours with limited rest. Currently, most crew members only receive partial time off, which is insufficient for truly recharging their physical and mental energy. As Rinell Banda, an influential voice in the crew community and founder of Buhay Sa Cruise Ship, advocates: “Your crew is your strength. Let’s give them the break they deserve.”

The Benefits of a Full Day Off:

  1. Enhanced Productivity: A rested crew is a more energized and efficient crew.
  2. Improved Mental Health: A day off helps reduce burnout, foster mental well-being, and maintain morale.
  3. Better Physical Health: Reducing stress and physical strain can minimize the need for medical leave.
  4. Stronger Teamwork: A well-rested team works better together, creating a positive environment for both crew and guests.
As Rinell Banda says, “Happy crew members lead to happy guests. It’s a win-win for everyone!”

Our Call to Action:
We urge all cruise lines to set a new industry standard by giving their crew the opportunity to recharge and thrive. One day off a month is not just a request—it’s an investment in the health, happiness, and success of the people who form the heart of your ships.

Together, let’s make a difference!
